Aloha and mahalo for your interest in Lononuiākea the Collective Impact Initiative. This collective is focused on Native Hawaiian academic achievement particularly in the area of S.T.E.A.M.. Currently we are piloting this initiative on the East side of Hawaiʻi island however once that pilot is complete we intend to encourage other communities to create their own collectives and Kamaʻaha will provide the assistance in the replication.
Native Hawaiian students in the Hilo Complex Schools and two charter schools consistently score well-below their peers in science and math. Those same youth however identify and participate at high levels in the arts. Lononuiākea will look at the data from cradle to career in order to develop a common vision and agenda, share measurement systems, develop and implement mutually reinforcing activities and provide continuous communication in order to address this social issue.
In order to create this collective impact we need representatives from government, businesses, education (preschool - university), community groups and philanthropist to join us.
